Influenza H1N1 (Human Swine Influenza) - Information for Parents and Carers - February 2010
Pandemic (H1N1) 2009, or human swine flu is a virus that spreads easily and can lead to critical illness requiring hospitalisation. Sadly, 41 Queenslanders died of this preventable disease last year.
A second wave of human swine flu is anticpated in April/May 2010 and is expected to be similar to the first wave in 2009. The best way to manage the spread of human swine flu is immunisation. Currently 13% of Queensland's population has been immunised against human swine flu.
As children and adolescents spread influenza viruses more rapidly, Queensland Health have introduced a free immunisation program targeting this group to help protect them and the broader community.
You can help protect yourself, your family and your local community by taking advantage of the free immunisation clinics being offered by Queensland Health.
If you would like further information on the free immunisation clinics please contact 13Health (13 432 584) or visit the Queensland Health website by clicking here.
