Former longstanding Clayfield College Principal, Ida Kennedy (1964 – 1990), has been remembered as a visionary who dedicated her life to supporting girl’s education.
As Principal of Clayfield College for 26 years, Miss Kennedy was instrumental in creating the school’s flagship performing arts programs. “She was a gracious, quietly spoken woman who dedicated her whole life to others,” former Principal Carolyn Hauff said. “Every girl was important to Ida, every student was important and she never gave up on her students – she was always willing to give a second and third chance.”
Clayfield College students, staff and the community gathered recently to remember the life of Ida Kennedy, who died at 89.
Miss Kennedy was awarded for her service to students and the community with honours including the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Medal, and the UNICEF certificate for outstanding support by a Principal. Miss Kennedy was also awarded an OAM in 1995 for her service to education in Queensland.
The legend of Miss Kennedy lives on at Clayfield College.
